| Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Vaidya Banwari Lal Gaur is an outstanding erudite Ayurvedic Scholar, a renowned Physician and above all, a self-disciplined, hardworking, energetic and enthusiastic young man of 64 years ! He occupied this coveted Seat on 27-3-2006 on being selected for 5 years and he is the first selected Vice-Chancellor of this University. |
| Prof. Banwari Lal Gaur is an Ayurvedic Scholar known not only all over the country but abroad also. His knowledge in Ayurveda is exemplary. He can be called a Rishi of Ayurveda of the present times because of his deep and thorough knowledge of Ayurveda – especially the Charak Samhita, on which, it can be said, he has an authority ! |
| He occupied various positions in State as well as Central Government organizations – right from a Physician in a Village to the level of Vice-Chancellor – the highest seat for an educationist. Prior to his joining the post, he was Director of the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, an aped Institute of the Department of AYUSH, Govt. of India. Really a deserving personality ! | Early Education |
| Born on 17-3-1946 in a remote Village of Etawa Bhopji in the Jaipur District of Rajasthan, he had his school education in the Village as well as in Jaipur. He lost his parents at his very early age. After completing the School education, he joined the Government Ayurvedic College, Jaipur and received the Degree of Bhisagacharya in 1966 and also the Post-Gradute Degree of Ayurved Brihaspati in the year 1974. He had opportunity to learn and study Ayurveda under Vaidya Jai Ram Dasji, Vaidya Ram Krishna Dhand, etc. the stalwards of Ayurveda of their times. He took his Ph.D. in Ayurveda from the National Institute of Ayurveda in 1986 on the subject of Contributions of Vaidya Swami Laxmiramji to Ayurveda. |

| Government Service |
| After passing out the Graduate Course in Ayurveda, he joined as Physician with the Government of Rajasthan at Village Mandava district Dungarpur and served in various places in the State before joining as Demonstrator in the Government Ayurvedic College, Udaipur and some time after Jaipur where he taught Ayurveda as well as took his Post-Graduation and Doctoral Degrees. |
| He worked in Government Ayurvedic College at Jaipur as well as at Udaipur till 1979 and joined the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur as Demonstrator.
Service in the National Institute of Ayurveda and contributions to its Development |
| He joined as Demonstrator in NIA in 1975 and rose to the level of its Director. He held various posts such as Demonstrator, Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor. He held the position of Head of the Department of Maulik Samhita and Siddhanta in the Institute for many years. |
| He took over the charge of Director in August 1998 and held this position till March 2006 to be elevated to the present position. During his tenure in the Institute, he had been responsible for its various developmental activities. Some of them are spelt out here: He maintained utmost discipline among the students, scholars, teachers and staff. The entire community in the Institute had in the best of their discipline and harmony during his tenure and it is being maintained by the present Director, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Sharma as well. The Institute saw various developmental and expansions like adding more Subjects for Post-Graduation, regular Ph.D., starting of a Diploma Course for Nurses/Compounder, Costruction of Auditorium, setting up of a separate Panchakarma Hospital, acquiring many instruments, equipments and machineries for various Departments, Pharmacy, Hospital, etc. A number of Units like Orthopedic Unit, Cancer Unit, Yoga Unit, Audiometry Unit etc. were set up by him in the Institute. He obtained Permanent Affiliation for the Institute for its UG and PG Courses. He ensure conduct of regular examinations in the University. |

| Foreign Visits |
| Prof. Banwari Lal Gaur visited the United Kingdom on a 2 Month WHO Fellowship. He was invited to Sri Lank by that Government to give his expert advice for setting up Post-Graduate Course in Ayurveda in Sri Lanka. He also visited South Africa to organize and represent the Government of India in a CII orgnised Made in India Show 2005 in which Ayurveda was exhibited at Johannesberg. |

| Member in many Universities, Committees of GOI |
| He is an expert Member in various bodies of many Universities, Government of India Committees for propagation and development of Ayurveda both in the country and abroad also. He was nominated by the Governor of Gujarat as an Expert Member in the Select Committee for selection of a Vice-Chancellor in the State. He was actively involved in the formation of the Rajasthan Ayurved University and it can be said without any hesitation that he was initially responsible and the credit goes to him for setting up of this University. |

| He has great interest in playing various Sports and Games and plays with students and staff which encourages and gives enthusiasm and spirit among the students. |

| Articles and Papers, Thesis supervised |
| He has to his credit 18 Books authored by him on various subjects of Ayurveda. He has published more 300 Articles and papers. He has supervised more than 50 Thesis of PG and Ph.D. level and has participated more than 125 National and International Seminars. |

| Family |
| He is leading a very happily married life. Wife, Smt. Champa Devi comes from a very reputed family of Jaipur, her brother being a retired Director of Sanskrit Education of Government of Rajasthan. Prof. Gaur has 2 sons and 1 daughter. The eldest son is a modern medicine qualified Doctor, Dr. Vibhavasu Gaur, who took his MBBS and MD in General Medicine from reputed Medical Colleges in Rajasthan and is presently running a reputed Nursing Home at Fatehpur in Sikar District. The daughter-in-law, Dr. Sonal Gaur is MBBS and D.G.O. The second son is a qualified Ayurvedic doctor having passed his BAMS and the daughter-in-law is a Law-Graduate. The only daughter, Smt. Jyotsana is a Post-Graduate(MA) in Sanskrit and is house-wife, the son-in-law a businessman. Prof. Gaur has 3 grandchildren. |
